Between the Pacific coast and the Caribbean Sea there are approximately 50 well known surfing areas and many more areas that are not as well known, but equally as good.

The main season for surfing in Costa Rica is April through to October. Surfers can also enjoy an almost constant water temperature through the entire surfing season. Most of the popular surf beaches are on the Pacific side and have a reputation of being “hardcore” surfing areas. Surfers have the choice of 2 coastlines, the Caribbean and the Pacific coasts. Both coasts have good surf spots and awesome waves. There is over 700 miles of coastline in Costa Rica. The Caribbean coast experiences larger swells and a shorter surf season due to the storms off of Mexico, while the Pacific coast enjoys year round surfing with more consistent surf.
